特徴
日本で最も枝下が長く、木口が正円に近いため、無駄なく使うことができ、また成長も早いことから、建材や家具等様々なものに多く使われている木材。ヨーロッパ家具の4大木材の一つアッシュとほぼ同種。
年輪のはっきりした環孔材で淡黄褐色。強度もあるが、環孔材らしく、年輪の幅で強度や重さがかなり違う。（細かい年輪の物は柔らかく軽く、幅のある荒い年輪のものは強靭で重い）
なお、野球のバットに使用される『アオダモ』はヤチダモの親戚にあたり、世界一強靭な材の一つである。
