産地：アフリカ 正式名：アフリカンパドーク 落葉高木
特徴
非常に発色がよく、醒めるような紅色が特徴のアフリカ産の材。
色の濃淡で本紫檀のような木目があらわれるため、紅紫檀と呼ばれているが、正確には花梨に近い。
固く粘りもある強靭な材で、交差木理でもあるため、加工は少し難。また、虫や菌に強く耐久性が高い。
経年変化で暗褐色の落ち着いた色味に変化する。（人によってはこの落ち着いた色合いのほうが良いという人もいる）
＊削りたての材は色移りする場合があり注意が必要。
用途
家具、工芸品等に使われる他、その発色のよい紅色を活かし象嵌細工や寄木細工に多用される。
ルイ15世・16世は、パドック製のコップを聖餐杯として使っていた。
